Gav-lar! I remember the first time you came to Neath. It was the weekend that I was doing my first ever proms in the park and in true Jenkins style a bus had been hired to take the Taffia to Singleton Park. We all thought it might be overwhelming for you to meet everyone all at once but how wrong we were. Half way through the concert, I could see a ginormous banner zig zagging it’s way from the very back of the 10,000 strong audience. I watched it as I continued to sing until it got close enough to read the words ’We Love You Katherine!’ The laugh out loud moment though for me came when I realised you’d been roped in to carrying one side of it. You threw yourself into the job with great enthusiasm and we all fell in love with you there and then. Whether it was Caribbean fun on the Queen Mary 2, backstage at Parkinson, larking around in LA, countless family parties, Christmases in Neath or when you came to visit us in the Hamptons, you were always really lovely company. Always interesting, always interested. Easy going, fun, warm and welcoming. You could talk to anyone and they would report back on what a top bloke you were. And that’s how I’ll always remember you Gav. I could sit here and type a hundred lovely moments we shared but instead I will leave you with my favourite Gav story. No, it’s not the day you went to the supermarket and asked the guy where the jacket potatoes were because you could only find baking potatoes, it’s your killer line whilst driving with us to Katsuya restaurant in Hollywood back before Rhys was born. On seeing numerous ‘PED X ING’ signs above the street (the same signs that are all across the United States and indicate a Pedestrian crossing) you said, “Who is this Ped-Ching then? A Chinese leader or something?” Thank you for the laughter and the memories Gav. Always and forever my brother in law. You will be greatly missed but we will keep your memory alive and well in the boys. Katherine x
